First a quote: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others .” – Mahatma Gandhi
Hello and happy (slightly belated) Independence Day ,
Whether you spent the weekend with loved ones or friends, caught a fireworks show, grilled something delicious, or simply enjoyed a bit of well-earned rest—I hope your Fourth of July was relaxing, safe, joyful, and meaningful.
Becky and I enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing day. It began with watching, and listening to, a rare thunderstorm roll across southwestern Idaho, followed by a brilliant blue-sky day, and ending with a clear evening and fireworks.
I once again found myself reflecting on how much we, as a nation, may take for granted. Our health. Our freedom. The safety to gather. The right to speak up. The opportunity to disagree. The luxury of a day off.
None of these are guaranteed for everyone, everywhere. And even here at home in our country, not everyone experiences these liberties equally.
While many enjoyed the holiday, I know others worked long hours, faced hardship, or spent the day quietly longing for something better. To those individuals, please know you weren’t forgotten in my thoughts and prayers.
These remain uncertain and trying times for many across our great nation.
As we move into July and the second half of the year, I’m reminded of this: patriotism is not just about fireworks and flags, it is also about choosing to do our part to make things better, where we are, with what we have, and who we’re with.
This is an everyday challenge for all of us. To build stronger communities. To lead with compassion. To speak up when it matters. To lift others, even when it’s inconvenient.
We are a country full of promise—but also in need of healing, unity, and action. Let’s not settle for our current reality. Let’s all commit to building something better together. Braver. Bolder. Kinder.
Below are a few favorite quotes this week, chosen with that spirit in mind. I hope one of them sparks something meaningful for you.
Thank you for reading. Stay safe, stay kind, and—as always—let’s continue to be our “best selves” every day.
How will you live, love, or lead, differently, or better, this week?
With gratitude,
Bryan Yager
