First a quote:Although no one can go back and make a new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.” – Carl Bard

In so many ways, we are each writing our own story, a book of sorts. We develop the characters, create the setting in which the story takes place, and develop the plot, complete with twists and turns. If we don’t like the direction the story is currently headed, we’re able to begin a new chapter, or a new direction, at any time we desire.

Carl Bard is correct; it doesn’t matter if we’re thinking about this exact minute, or our day, week, month, year, life, career, or even a project we’re working on; if we don’t like the start, we always have the option of creating a brand new ending. It is important to remember; we are the primary authors of our own unique stories.

As 2019 comes to a close, now is a good time for pause, reflection, perhaps even an assessment of our lives and the direction our storyline is taking. I’m fond of saying, “If you keep heading in the direction you are going, you are likely to end up where you are headed.” Are you going to be happy where you end up? 2020 may be a good time for an assessment of your current chapter or story.

I think about my own story more frequently these days. I will turn 64 in less than two weeks. I love the work I am fortunate to do. While I don’t plan to retire any time soon, I am very much aware I am in the process of writing the last several chapters, at least of my career. I’m looking forward to the remaining chapters with anticipation, elation and so much gratitude for all who have, and do, make a positive difference in my life.

2019 has been a wonderful chapter for me and our family. If you are reading this missive today, you are an important character in my storyline. I feel fortunate our paths have crossed, even if in a very small way, or for a very short period of time. I am grateful. Thank you for the opportunity I have had to be of service this past year.

May you all have a warm and wonderful holiday season filled with love, joy and happiness.

Our family is looking forward to celebrating Christmas.
