First a quote: “The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.” –Sydney Harris

One week from today, our daughter, Alison, is getting married. We will be officially welcoming Sam Nichols into our family next Sunday at 4:00 pm MDT. This is certainly an exciting time of life for Becky and me; watching our offspring launch careers, lives and independent households of their own.

As you can imagine, my wife Becky, Alison, Sam and his family have been busy planning for this momentous event for well over a year, and here we are, now down to one week. Certainly, many things yet to be done and accomplished; it would be easy to let stress set in and become all-consuming.

While my list of business projects is long, invoices to be mailed, proposals to be written or finalized, emails to be answered or sent, business itineraries to be created and writing to be done, I am officially taking the week off to give 100% of my attention to Becky, Alison, Connor, and my extended family and friends.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes…Including you.” – Anne Lamott

I am committing now publicly, through this missive, to live in the present, to relax, enjoy, and be a part of creating positive memories for my family. My desire is to focus fully on the most important people in my life for the next seven days.

I treasure a lesson I learned from Stephen R. Covey in his book “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” which is: “There is a difference between prioritizing your schedule and, scheduling your priorities.”

This week, my family and friends are my priority. I have scheduled this time off to focus entirely on them. Please note I will not be publishing a Monday Morning Minute next week, Monday, September 2, 2019 as part of my commitment.

Labor Day was created to honor the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our great country. I encourage you to schedule time off as well, to focus on what is truly important in your life, whatever, or whomever that might be. Take a vacation or simply a day off to recharge, refocus, rejuvenate, or perhaps, to clarify your priorities. As Steven R. Covey said, take time to “sharpen your saw.”

Have a safe and wonderful holiday week and Labor Day weekend!

All the best! Do your best! Give your best! Be your best!
